Obituary

Alice (Brandao) Athaide, 81, of New Bedford died Monday August 5, 2013 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late George Athaide.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Gloria (Bettencourt) Brandao, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

Mrs. Athaide was formerly employed at the Belmont Manufacturing Company.

She was a former member of the Stetsonnaires.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Higham and her husband Kevin and Brenda Beauregard and her husband Norman, all of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Brian Beauregard, Matthew Beauregard and his wife Sarah, Andrew Beauregard, Jonathan Beauregard, Alison Higham, and Patrick Higham; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lana Beauregard.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472, for research to benefit those burdened with the same illness as her late husband George.
