Dear Susan, Sandy, Jimmy, Peter and the Sfougaris family, I'm heartbroken to hear of Uncle Jimmy's passing. He was always loving and caring and genuinely nice to everyone. I have fond memories of him as I was growing up and sharing with the "Canton Family". And I hope all of your loving memories comfort you now and always. He will be missed by all of us. Sending love and prayers to all of you...Sophia G.

I met Jim through his brither Peter who worked with me at Emerson & Cuming. Would bump into Jim at the Town Spa when he was picking up Pizza. A true gentleman. He will be missed. Ed DiCastro

All of us at the Sven Brask Chess Club are heartbroken by this loss. Jim loved chess, was a strong player, and a real competitor at the board - but much more importantly he was as nice a man as you could ever hope to meet. We all called him "Grandmaster Sfougaris" and it was a sign of the love and respect we all had for him. Our club will never be the same and our hearts go all to all his family and friends.

I am sorry about the passing of Jim. I remember him to be a handsome and kind man married to Susan Sfougaris whom I taught with at the Kennedy School. He was always smiling and very gracious. My deepest sympathy goes out to Susan, his wife, and his family in this time of great sadness .May he rest in peace with God and his holy angels.

I'm so sorry to the Sfougaris family for your loss. I knew Jim from the Sven Brask club and it was always a pleasure playing and socializing with Jim. He was a gentleman and very resourceful chess player who will be missed. I wish the very best to his entire family as they move forward. Best wishes.

My sympathy to the Sfougaris family. Jim was very easy to like, always pleasant and full of life. I remember him from high school, class of 1949. We were the last class to graduate from the old Canton High School which was across from the Canton Post Office. I`m sure this will leave a large void in your lives.

Sue, We were so sorry to see the passing of Jimmy posted in the Canton Citizen this week. We wish we had known he had passed because we would have been by the funeral home to pay our respects in person to you and your family. Jim was such a dear . We will always remember how he took the time t show our son Brian the rules and some of the moves of chess when he was growing up. We will all miss him. Our Thoughts & Prayers to you and yours.

Growing up in Canton and going to St. John's, I loved "Mr. Sfougaris" as our gym teacher. He made it fun and he had nicknames for everyone. When I sprained my ankle as a freshman at Canton High School, the gym teacher enlisted his help to carry me out of the building. He said, "This is the nicest thing I've carried over the threshold in a long time!" I never forgot that. My husband, Randy, remembers playing chess with him many times. We both remember him as a wonderful, kind man. Our condolences to his family.

I am saddened to learn of the death of Jim Sfougaris..he was a great guy and talented tournament chess player; playing Jim was always a challenge to me, but, win, lose or draw, the games were NEVER dull! So many years have passed since I played down there at the Sven Brask Chess Club, but I'll always have pleasant memories of Jimmy, both as a chess player and as a true gentleman...thanks for the games and memories, Jimmy! Requiescat in pace!
