Obituary

Dr. Daniel L. Dickinson

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, August 1, 2011, Dr. Daniel L. Dickinson, 57, husband of Esmeralda M. Dickinson.

Danny, as he was known by everyone, was an adopted Georgian from California. He was a graduate of San Lorenzo High, University of California Santa Barbara, Universidad Autonoma D Guadalajara, and Medical College of Georgia.

Danny was a well known doctor in Augusta. He had his own medical practice for over twenty years, which at one point included over 10,000 patients in the C.S.R.A. For the last few years he was honored to serve as a teaching doctor at Dwight D. Eisenhower. He loved working with the young doctors and testing his abilities to stay current with the latest medical practice. Danny was a passionate physician who loved his patients. He recognized his talent with medicine as a gift from God. He was not your typical doctor who only treated one’s medical diagnosis; he genuinely cared about the well being of his patients and took his career as an opportunity to pray and share how Christ had changed his life and could do the same for them. He cared for his patients from the inside out, physically and spiritually. Danny was also an avid traveler and passionately participated in medical missions all over the world, including China, Nepal, Honduras, Mexico, and Africa. He opened himself up as a vessel for the Lord to impact his patients and countless others.

Daniel’s fierce hobby was bicycling. He and his buddies were seen daily biking around town. He participated in many road and mountain bike races, Brevet’s, and even family rides, both here in the US and also in Europe. A few of his riding adventures included: Race Across America, Paris Brest Paris, RAM, Gold rush, BRAG, and Tour of Alaska which his daughter, Eva, and son, Danny, also took part in.

But certainly Danny’s pride and biggest joy was his family. Through his marriage to Esmeralda for thirty years, they were blessed with four wonderful children, Danny, Eva, Osbar, and Adalin. Friends knew this papa’s biggest priority was his family. He spent quality time with each of his kids, coaching all four of them in either of their soccer or basketball teams. He loved seeing Danny thrive in track meets, Eva in her gymnastics competitions, and Adalin in her competitive cheerleading events. His dedication as a father was also shown by making the long road trips in order to never miss a single sporting event. Recently, Daniel was being physically trained in the gym by Osbar, doing something they both loved and enjoyed. Several times throughout the year, family was brought to a focus during birthdays, holidays, and especially family vacations, such as ski trips and visits to Mexico and California. Through laughter and tears, the Dickinson family had a bond that all who knew them admired and wanted for their own.

To all who know Daniel, he was a spectacular person who touched many lives. He was an inspiration to us all. His energy and enthusiasm were contagious. He was a passionate physician, adoring husband and loving father. Danny’s death took us all by surprise and is a tragedy but He is in heaven right now. We love you so much and you are greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held today, August 4, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Warren Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating.
