Obituary

Elizabeth Cleckley

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, January 16, 2013, Elizabeth Fanning Cleckley, wife of the late Edward W. Cleckley of Augusta. She was the daughter of the late Harry C. Fanning and Elizabeth Harris Fanning of Columbia, SC. After finishing Dreher High School in Columbia, she attended the University of South Carolina. While at the University she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and participated in many organizations on campus. After graduating she worked for the Richland County Chapter, American Red Cross in Columbia for several years.

She married Edward Cleckley and moved to Charlotte, NC for eighteen years. While in Charlotte she was a member of the Charlotte Symphony Association, Foxcroft Garden Club and did many volunteer jobs for her church and the schools her children attended.

In 1972 she moved to Augusta with her family. She was President of the Magnolia Garden Club, on the Board of the Augusta Council of the Garden Clubs and was also on the Board of the Azalea District. She was a Life Member of the Garden Club of Georgia. She was a member of the South Carolina Huguenot Society and enjoyed attending meetings and social events in Charleston for many years.

She was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, organized the wedding committee and was a member of Matthews Covenant Sunday School Class. She loved flowers and enjoyed arranging them for friends and various meetings at Church.

She is survived by a son Rev. E. Walter Cleckley and daughter–in-law Susan Mansley Cleckley of Lititz, PA, a daughter Lynn Cleckley Parsons of Greenville, SC and two grand children Charlotte Cleckley of Lititz, PA and Cole Parsons of Greenville, SC.

A cryptside service will be held in the mausoleum at Westover Memorial Park on Monday, January 21, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Paul Sherwood officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions may be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.

Following the service friends will be received by the family in the Sun Room at Brandon Wilde Monday afternoon following the service from 2:30 until 4:30 P.M.
