Sally M. Wallace departed this life on October 6, 2018, to her heavenly home and to reunite with the love of her life, her husband, John Wallace, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 12, 2018 Lake Park Baptist Church with Reverends Robert Gosey and Tom Kalliokoski officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Sally was born in Augusta to Ollie H. and Geneva Maddox and was a lifelong resident. She attended John Milledge Grammar School and graduated from Tubman High School. She went to work at the age of 14 with Friedman’s Jewelers and thereafter obtained a position in the Non-Appropriated Funds Department at Fort Gordon. She went on to manage that department and retired in 1996 after 44 years of distinguished service. She was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was church records secretary for many years. She met her husband and soul mate, John Wallace, while he was stationed at Fort Gordon and they were together for 64 years before his passing.
Sally was predeceased by her husband, her parents, Ollie H. and Geneva Maddox, and her brothers, Ollie Jr. and Preston. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Skelton (George) and her much cherished granddogs, Petey and Cleo. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Virginia Fleetwood, whom she considered her sister; her closest nephew, Charles (Candi) Maddox and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Bill Barron, Odell Sprouse, Allen Russell, Tom Lively, Steve Dent and Don Wyatt.
The family will receive friends at Platt’s Funeral Home on Thursday, October 11,2018 from 6 to 8 PM, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA.
Her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her longtime caregiver, Everlyn Bailey and the staff at Trinity Hospice, for their expert loving care during her illness.
