Obituary

Irma C. Thompson, age 86, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Metz, France to the late Charles and Eugénie Kern. She moved to the United States in 1957, and after moving between posts, made her home in Augusta, Ga where she reared her two children. She was known to her friends and family for her love of animals, traveling, French culture, and fierce protection of her ideals. You were likely to hear spirited conversation bouncing between French, German, and English in her home where you would also be offered a cup of coffee and refreshments any time you entered. In her later years, she resided in Martinez, Ga, but her indomitable personality remained the same.

She is survived by her two children, Charles Thompson of Warner Robins (Teresa Barnes of Martinez) and Sylvia Motzkus (Dirk) of Martinez; five grandchildren, Christine Motzkus of Worcester, Massachusetts, Andrew Motzkus (Jennifer) of Spain, Valerie Motzkus (Aaron Bruce) of Italy, Lauren Thompson of Wakefield, Rhode Island, and Caitlin Thompson of Warner Robins; special friend and devoted caretaker, Nita Clark of Augusta; and family friend, A. Olivia McMichael of Macon.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel.

A memorial mass will held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 10, 2018 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Mike Ingram officiating. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium at St. Teresa’s.
