Mercy, we are so sorry for your loss and immeasurable pain. We have so many fond memories of your Mom and are so grateful for her taking care of Jennifer so lovingly when she was a toddler. Remember that your Mom will be with you always--alive in your heart and mind--to guide you and protect you through the rest of your life. May our dear Rebe rest in the Lord's peace and may He give you and your Dad His loving comfort during this very difficult time. We love you and are here for you always.

Mercy, I am so sorry about your mom. I know that you love her very much and that you are very close to your parents. Please try and take care of yourself, this is a very hard time and you will need your strength. I am certain that your loss feels immeasureable, but you will heal with time and love and support. We are all here for you, praying and sending you love. I have very fond memories of your mom; we played so much when I was a child - cowboys and Indians, make-up and jewelry, watching Richard Simmons (Chicago). I will never forget the Betty Boop jewelry set that she bought for me, I was thrilled! I'm sorry that time has separated us, but I still love you all very much. Hugs and kisses, Jenn

Mercy and Edi: Despite the many years since I last saw Tia Rebeca, I will miss knowing she is not with us any longer. I have fond memories of her. My earliest memory of her love for animals was "Duly." Her love for that little dog was a reflection of her kind soul and loving nature. Her sweet disposition toward her nephews--all of us--made it so pleasurable to be around her. Of course, her love for us was only surpassed by her love for and devotion to both of you. May God keep her soul and grant us the fortune of seeing her again.

Mercy y Tio Eddy: I always remember my Tia Rebe laughing with us on our visits to Boston and how much she loved her animals. We never had cats before, just a dog, and she was the one who made me want my first cat. I've always had one now ever since! I'm so glad I stopped in to visit her on my last trip to Boston a few years ago. It was so nice to see all of you after so many years. We send our most heartfelt condolences and we hope that you are finding comfort in her memory. Besos, Vanessa & Robert

My sister Rebeca —or Rebe as I used to call her— is no longer with us because she went to Heaven. But she is with us in spirit, and we will forever feel her presence and love in our hearts. She was a devoted mother and wife. And she dedicated almost her entire life to caring for her daughter Mercedes and husband Jesus. Rebe and I grew up together in Havana, Cuba. She loved her parents and all her brothers and sisters. And she was pampered by our father, by “padrinito,” “madrinita,” and the rest of the family. But I feel I was kind of special to her because I was the youngest in the family. I admired her and try to copy the highly skillful maneuvers she did when she rode her bike (she seldom used her hands) and when she roller skated on our neighborhood streets. We shared adjacent bedrooms and I still remember our tirelessly pillow fights. Years later, I had the privilege to chaperone her whenever she had a date. The first time she dated her husband, Jesus, I was there with them! Rebe was pretty, had poise and always stood out among other women. She had a romantic personality and memorized and chanted all the love songs made by the popular Trio “Los Panchos.” She was passionate about baseball, and when she immigrated to the U.S. she became an enthusiastic and loyal Red Sox fan. She had a soft side for animals, especially dogs and cats, embraced animal rights and was a continuous contributor to animal causes. She enjoyed cooking and whenever I visited her in Boston, she would prepare my favorite meals. Now she is in the company of her parents, brothers and sisters and all those who loved her. And they are welcoming her arrival and feeling her radiant presence. And if she were able to speak to her daughter, husband and the rest of us, she would be telling us: "Don’t cry for me. I am happy where I am, free of pain and no longer suffering. Go on with your lives, and be joyful because I am with the Lord.” I am proud that Rebeca was my sister and will look back on our time together with fond memories. Rebe, I will always remember you and the time we spent together. Your memory will live on in my heart forever. Tere and I will never, never forget you.
