Paul was one of my all time favorite people. I met him as a student at what was then Anderson College. He taught me in four different math classes as I worked toward becoming a math teacher. Since I remained in Anderson after college, Paul kept in touch with me, especially during the early years after college. He knew my wife and the birth dates of my kids. He has been one of the giants for me in my life; a friend, a mentor, a role model. His drive to be excellent as a teacher and his love for his students, the hours of extra help he would provide, provided a model for me in my own teaching career. His style of teaching had a profound impact on my own to the extent that when some of my students moved on to AU and had Paul as a teacher, it was common for them to comment to me on our similarities. I'm so thankful that Paul got to teach right up to the end of his life here. His impact and his legacy will live on in all of us who were blessed to know him. I'm sure that our Savior welcomed him home with, "Well done, Paul! Well done!" I thank God for this man!

I was an international student at AU years back who wasn’t understanding math, and Prof Saltzmann took time often after school to give a few of us extra lessons. Appreciated his extra effort and the way he taught. He was gentle, kind, and had a quirky sense of humour (his end of semester surveys, his jokes, his awesome shirts) which I loved. Thank you for walking decades of students throughout college and impacting us with your grace & love professor, see you in heaven!

Paul Saltzmann was my finite mathematics professor at Anderson University. He was one of the best, always leaving time at the end of class to talk about further explanations and also setting time outside of class when I was struggling on a particular concept. Before exams, he would have study tables for students to come to so that we could fully understand the practice problems and lessons. Because of his dedication, I passed many exams that I found had difficult material and learned how to be a great teacher. Not only did he cover mathematics concepts in class, but he also gave us mini Bible lessons, to one I still have the book that "Love is the greatest of these". I, as well as other students, can also remember the shorts and sandals with a funny T-shirt as his daily attire (even in the winter). He will surely be missed by the students at AU!

My prayers and condolences are with the family. Paul and I started our Anderson College teaching the same year... he in Math, I taught General Science and Chem labs. We became good friends and would later share an apartment for more than two years. We had so many memorable, fun, exciting and crazy times together. Paul touched so many lives, including my brothers and certainly mine. He will always have a large place in my "memories hall of fame."

I am saddened to hear of Paul’s passing. He was such a terrific professor and friend, both during my years at Anderson and ever after. Whenever I got to see Paul after graduating he always picked up exactly where we left off and was always so genuinely interested in my life. Such a rare and genuine person. I will always treasure having known him.

Blessings and prayers of comfort & peace for Paul's surviving family. Heaven has truly been rewarded another one of earth's angels. I will long remember his kindness, compassion & patients. It is bitter sweet how his selfless soul has been risen up so suddenly. May all who was touched & changed for the good by his gracious heart be at peace and feel the peace of our great Lord & Saviour upon Paul's passing.

Paul was my math professor and friend. I loved his "scrippy scraps" and him coming to class and taking off his shoes. Once before class started, the whole class took off their shoes and put them in a pile in front of class. Paul came in and taught class with out any acknowledgment of our prank. He had a great sense of humor. I will always remember him for being genuine, with no pretense. He was an honest man who made everyone he met feel valued and important in this life. He took time and took interest in whatever I had to say. He would look you in the eye and give you his full attention. Paul was by far my favorite professor and friend from Anderson College/University. He will live on my my thoughts and memories. I was truly blessed to have known him. My prayers are with the family!

I'm sorry to hear of Prof. Saltzmann's passing, and I'll keep his family in my prayers. He was my favorite professor at Anderson University, and he helped me get through two math classes with patience and caring. I've never seen a more dedicated teacher, and he made a difference in so many lives. He was a genuinely kind human being with a tremendous heart, and he'll be missed.

Dr. Saltzman, A great professor indeed! Your love and care of students was always evident. Thanks for the mathematical and life insights. Thanks, also, for the Scrippy Scrap Awards! Blessings and prayers for family and friends.

I remember Paul Saltzmann as a favorite of my peers in the early 80s at AU (who loved his "scrippy scrap" bonus point questions). He was a professor who was deeply committed to his students and to sharing his love of serving others (as illustrated by his office door being covered with letters & photos of people he had met on Tri-S trips). I remember his "Matthew 25" ministry and his taking students to visit nursing home residents on Sunday afternoons. After graduation, I knew Paul through a mutual friend, and later as a colleague at AU. He was always so kind, encouraging, and respectful. Despite his stuttering challenges, he never skipped the opportunity to stop to talk and take an interest in my latest happenings. For many years, I've watched him lead the AU graduation processional as the longest-tenured professor, and every year I said, "Wow! Just how LONG has Paul Saltzmann been at AU?" His legacy is nothing short of amazing. Both, 60 years of teaching college students who didn't like math (yet came out feeling good about themselves anyway) and 60 years of teaching future math educators who go on to teach students who impact the world, one at a time. I'm privileged to have known Paul Saltzmann and I celebrate his life and gifts that he shared so freely with his beloved AU community. He is a legend.

Paul Saltzmann was by far my favorite professor in college. In fact, as a person who was terrible at math and hated it, I actually took an extra math class just to have him as a professor. I never regretted it and looked forward to class each time! His sense of humor was the absolute best and his style has inspired my own teaching. He was an amazing and inspiring man!

Words can not express the depth of loss we feel as we say farewell to our dear professor, colleague, and friend. We can all say that we are better because we knew him. Professor Saltzman was the definition of dedication and service. When I think of what impact a life could have, I can't help but think of you. Never for the crowd but always made yourself available. Math never really made sense to some of us until we sat in one of your free Sunday session, where you took the time to go over it again and again. Dear loved ones, we grieve with you and celebrate the legacy your dear loved one has left on countless lives. He was indeed one of the brightest lights at Anderson University and in our community! Rest Dear Brother, we will see you on that day!

My sincere condolences to the family of a man who was born to teach! Dr. Paul cured me of my math phobia in 1971. Not only did he expertly explain all of his math lessons, he gave us opportunities to earn extra % points on our grade by participating in "pools." One involved who we thought would win Miss America that evening. Another was identifying Shakespeare's quotes by work. My favorite was, "Who steals my purse steals trash" from Othello. I give him credit for giving me the confidence to fearlessly teach math during my 40 year career, which pales in comparison to his epic 60! Well done, goid and faithful servant. I will miss this great teacher and better yet, a great human being. Several years ago I would visit nursing homes with Paul. I had Paul for two math classes and I would look forward, favorably, to make sure I was in that class. May Paul rest, forever, in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I only recently heard about Paul's passing, and I have been trying to find the words about what to say concerning his effect on my life. I came to Anderson College in the Fall of 1964, thinking I would major in mathematics, but not knowing what I would do with the major once I graduated. In Paul, I found not only a mentor and role model, but I found a friend who taught me so much more about life than just mathematics. His obvious love of teaching inspired me to pursue that course of action, and I just finished my 51st year of teaching junior high, high school and college. I pattern so many things I do in the classroom on his informal style of teaching and use of humor. I try to show my students the same patience and caring that he did for his students and others. We also shared the love of theater, and I worked with him on a couple of productions at AC, and I have continued to be involved in community theater over the years. Three generations of my family have had the privilege of being in a class he taught, including my great-niece, who also tutored for him this past semester. His is an amazing legacy that he leaves at AC and now AU. He touched many, many lives, and his legacy will live on in those lives, including mine. Two quotes about teachers I think epitomize Paul Saltzmann's career and life. "I touch the future, I teach" and "A good teacher is like a candle—it consumes itself to light the way for others." You were a light to so many others, Paul, and you have touched the future. Rest in Peace, good friend!
