Salem, NH- George Max III, 71, died Saturday January 9th, 2010 at his home in Salem, NH, surrounded by those he loved most, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. A wonderful precious light has been taken from us and as life passes on, it will never be the same.
Born in Dover, NH on October 26, 1938, George was the son of George Max Jr. and Dorothy (Healey) Max. He was a graduate of the Methuen Public School System and also attended Boston University. For 38 years George worked as an Inspector at Raytheon in Andover until retiring in 1999. He also served his country as part of the Marine Reserves.
George was a longtime Methuen resident as well as a resident of Clearwater Beach, FL before moving to Salem, NH. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling. In 1956 George played a key role rebounding and playing defense, for the undefeated Tenney High School Basketball Team. He also enjoyed playing volleyball at the Lawrence YMCA.
George was a devoted husband, father and grampee and we will never know joy and happiness as we once knew it, without our beloved George in our lives. His legacy of love for his family are the greatest gifts he leaves to all he knew and cared for.
George will be deeply missed and always remembered in the hearts of his wife of 45 years, Melanie J. (Hayes) Max, his two daughters, Heather Cardini and her husband Peter of Derry, NH, Shauna Talbot and her husband Ricky of Methuen, two grandchildren, Alexxis Melanie Talbot and Niko Cardini. He is also survived by one brother Richard Max of Las Vegas and several neices and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother Billy Max and sister Marilyn Thompson.
A special thanks to George's caregivers,Dr. Thatai, Dr. D'Silva and all the nurses for thier kindness, compassion and gentle care during a most difficult time. We would also like to thank everyone at Amedisys Hospice Services especially his nurses Kara and Kathleen.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to the First Church Congregational on 26 Pleasant Street in Methuen to celebrate and honor the Life of George Max on Saturday January 16th, 2010 at 1 PM.
