Obituary

Jack Cohen of Winthrop died on January 31, 2009 at the Abbott House Nursing Home in Lynn. He was 90 years old. Jack was the devoted husband of 72 years of Muriel (Freedman) Cohen.

Jack was born in Chelsea and spent most of his life in Winthrop. He attended the Winthrop schools and graduated Winthrop High School Class of 1936. He was a retired sales manager of Hendries Frozen Foods and was proud to have served in the United States Navy during World War Two. Jack was a life member in the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Winthrop Yacht Club for many years.

Jack was the devoted father of Janice Brenner, Alan Cohen and his wife Judy, William Cohen and his wife Sharon, and Roberta Nerantz and her husband Perry. He was the dear brother of Robert Cohen, Simon Cohen, Florence Bixby, Mildred Brown, Rhoda Koocher, Joyce Wolf, and the late Saul Cohen and Marion Koocher. Jack was the loving grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq.) Chelsea on Monday, February 2 at 12:00 Noon. Interment in Lynn. Memorial observance at his late residence on Monday following interment until 6:00 PM and Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, Development Department, 271 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
