Sheryl, I don't have to tell you how I feel about Patrick. He will always hold a spot in my heart. I remember the day in second grade like it was yesterday when Lynch School wrote Valentine cards to accompany gifts to a homeless shelter. He wrote that he knew how they felt because he was homeless once too. He said he hoped they would find a new home like he did and that they too would be happy. The memory still brings tears to my eyes. He always had a smile and some kind words for me. I hope he is at peace. He will be missed.

Sheryl, I will never forget the day we met you. We were engaged in our first IEP meeting, which you led calmly and thoroughly. At the end, you told us you might be getting the paperwork out a bit late because you were off to adopt two sons. We were so impressed. I watched you through all these years raise those boys to be fine, accomplished adults with heart and character. Periodically, you and I compared notes of raising boys who didn't fit the mold, the heartache of it all, and the moments of triumph. And you persevered. You gave them a home, and a chance, and your strength as a mother.I continue to be impressed. Nobody expects or deserves this kind of tragic end. Our hearts go out to you and to Peter. We are sending you strength and stamina for your grief. We are honored we were able to participate in Patrick's journey, even as onlookers.
