CONDOLENCES (GuestBook)

Naples, Florida,
Dear Members of the Bird Family, Please accept my sympathy at this time and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I met your Father when I was assigned to the state police barracks in Concord in 1990. He and I became instant friends. For the next 1-2 years I worked the detail where he had his "survey crew" that were on Rte 2 and somehow I always got that detail. We would go out to dinner after I retired, play cribbage and always keep in touch. We had lunch a few months back and talked around Christmas. Your Father was one of the nicest guys and could always be described as a "Gentleman." He did so much for so many you will never know. We had talked of him coming down to Florida at the end of March, a time he said he enjoyed down here. Please know that we all have lost a great Father, man and friend. My thoughts remain with you.

Dick was chief of our survey crew on rte. 95 in the mid 70's and I used to look forward to going to work. A sweetheart of a boss, he and our transit man Sam always kept us entertained. I will miss him terribly.

To all of the Bird Family, My Dad, Dick Farren worked with your Dad during the surveying of Rt.s 93 and 495. He was such a great guy ~ and I know that our Dad thought very highly of him. They worked together for a number of years ~ and he was a special guest at our Dad's surprise 70th birthday party ~ and our Dad was delighted to see him. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts, our prayers ~ and in our hearts during this difficult time.

Dick was a friend for many years, he never failed to have a story, a joke or an antidote to light up the day. We will miss his company, his smile and his stories. It won't be the same these coming holidays, car shows, and summer BBQ's without him here. He truly lived life to the fullest and enjoyed each and every day. Godspeed.

So sorry to hear of Dick.s passing. I called him this evening Sept 23, 2014 and knew things were not right when I got a disconnected telephone number. Dick and I had a love for automobiles as well as many great conversations over coffee. My condolences to his family, may he rest in peace. Mark Hudson, Wakefield, Ma..
